Choose a Flat, Level Surface Away From Water
Be sure to select a flat, level surface for placing your animal trap. Placing the trap on the side of a steep hill, for instance, could cause it to slide or topple over when the animal comes in contact. A trap that is placed close to the edge of a water source, such as a pond or stream, could also pose a drowning risk if the animal inadvertently knocks it into the water.
